Virtual Arts Camp
During the week of July 5 - July 10, students from Rosebud Academy participated in a weeklong The Arts! Camp hosted by
Alpha Kappa Alpha, Eta Lambda Omega Chapter, virtually.
Students learned about the Harlem Renaissance and the Black Arts Movement.
Students created their own work inspired by works of poetry art and literature throughout the week. On Monday we had an
overview of the Harlem Renaissance and the program. Megan Easterling, guided the students through creating
visual arts pieces in the style of artist Aaron Douglass that were inspired by Langston Hughes,"A Dream Deferred."
Students learned about Jazz music from Lenora Helm
Hammonds. Thursday, Shanae Sharon lead them through
performing response poems and prose inspired by art work. On the final session the students were able to speak to panelists
writer and marketer Erica McCarden and visual artist, Chris Jordan regarding arts careers.
The primary program facilitator was Carolyn Ford with support from The Arts! committee. Dr. Ford shared, "The workshop gave students an
opportunity to explore, engage, and interact with experts in The Arts!"
